Idea # 0002

Date: December 14, 2016 [Updated October 10, 2021]

The technology aims to use people's individual brain waves to control electronic devices, specifically our personal computers*. The idea was inspired by the TV show 3%. The tech aims to enhance the security of our devices by only working for someone's unique brain wave**.

[Update] The part that measures the brain waves would need to communicate to a Bluetooth transmitter to send the signals to a smart phone. In one scenario, the device could have it's own microprocessor installed that could read the brainwaves and transmit a simple signal to the phone. This would reduce the potential for data corruption when the information is passed from device to phone, however such a processor would add an extra breaking point that would need to be protected. Alternatively, the device could send the raw data directly to the phone and allow the phone's processor to do all of the work. Not only would we have to worry about data being corrupted in transfer, we would also run the risk of using up a lot of the phone's resources which may hurt the phone.

* As well as smart devices and smart homes such as making a fresh cup of coffee when waking up.

** The idea of unique brain waves may or may not be science fiction. Limited research has been done on the concept. Essentially we would want to harness whatever unique factor of our brains. [Update Oct 2021] As it turns out there has been more research done on this topic than I knew. An article from 2007 explores such a topic noting that EEGs can measure unique brain waves.
